Post-Doctoral Fellow- NEW for 2024

Position Summary

We are now accepting applicants for a postdoctoral fellow position in the laboratory of Dr. Marcus Goncalves at NYU Langone Health. Dr. Goncalves is a physician-scientist and his lab works at the interface of cancer and endocrinology. In this position, you will lead a project titled "Combination Therapies Targeting Insulin Signaling in Endometrial Cancer." This exciting opportunity is part of our ongoing efforts to address the increasing incidence and mortality of endometrial cancer, particularly in the context of the obesity epidemic. We seek applications from ambitious and productive young scientists with a drive to become an expert in endometrial cancer signaling and metabolism. Moreover, the project has a focus on the tumor-host interactions that regulate systemic metabolism and obesity. Strong candidates will have a background in one or more of the following areas: mouse physiology, intermediary metabolism, cell biology, cancer biology, cell and organoid culture, cell metabolism, and/or molecular biology. You will be working in a highly-productive, well-funded, vibrant, interactive, friendly and intellectually stimulating research group doing cutting-edge metabolic research.

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage research activities related to the project, taking ownership of findings.

  • Conduct experiments using patient-derived blood and tumor tissues from clinical studies.

  • Analyze genetic, histologic, and biochemical markers of the Insulin/PI3K pathway.

  • Utilize patient-derived xenograft models to explore pharmacologic strategies to reduce systemic insulin levels.

  • Assess the systemic insulin response and tumor growth rates in treated mice.

  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of oncologists, endocrinologists, nutritionists, and industry partners.

  • Prepare and publish high-impact research findings.

Education

  • Candidates must hold a doctoral degree (PhD, DPhil, MD, or MD/PhD) in a biomedical science with published evidence of scientific research experience.

Experience

  • A strong record of accomplishment in research as evidenced by high-quality first author publications.

  • 3+ years of basic science experience with references.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a collaborative manner with all departmental faculty and staff, as well as other institutional representatives.

  • Candidates should have strong organizational, written, and verbal communication skills in English.

  • High levels of critical thinking, troubleshooting, and strong technical skills.

  • Experience in traditional molecular biology techniques including Western blot, quantitative PCR, ELISA, and/or histological imaging.

  • Our lab offers comprehensive training in:

    • Endometrial Cancer biology, metabolism, and signaling

    • Blood analyte testing methods and histology preparation.

    • Whole body physiological assessments of glucose and lipid homeostasis.

    • Rigorous clinical trial design and execution.

    • Understanding, quantifying, and manipulating endocrine feedback loops, cell signaling pathways, and metabolism.

    • Principles of Rigor & Reproducibility and Responsible Conduct of Research.

To apply, please send a cover letter with a brief summary of research experience and interests with CV/biosketch to Marcus Goncalves (mdg9010@med.cornell.edu).

Individuals from all genders and backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
